Rep. Jim Banks Votes to Uphold Trump’s First Veto with “No” Vote

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) voted against legislation that would override President Trump’s veto on the House Resolution that would end his emergency declaration to secure funding for border security.

Said Rep. Banks, “Today, I cast my first vote on a veto override motion by voting to uphold President Trump’s first veto with a “No” vote.  Make no mistake, there is an emergency at the Southern border, and President Trump unequivocally has the authority to declare an emergency to secure adequate funding to address the growing humanitarian crisis.  However, as I have said for weeks, if Congress has a problem with the vast authority that has been granted to the Executive Branch regarding emergency declarations, then I urge my colleagues to work together on legislation that will rein in that authority.  President Trump has said he would support such legislation, and I wholeheartedly agree with him.”
