Navy Secretary Responds to Banks Letter on USS Fort Wayne

Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer has responded to a letter sent last month by Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) that asked the Navy to consider naming a combat ship the USS Fort Wayne.

In response to Rep. Banks, Secretary Spencer wrote, “As the second-most populous city in Indiana, Fort Wayne is a fitting recommendation. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and can assure you the recommendation will receive every consideration.”

A copy of Spencer’s full response is attached.

“I appreciate the Secretary’s response and attention to this idea,” said Banks. “There’s a great case to be made for another USS Fort Wayne. We are proud that the greater Fort Wayne area produces many key naval capabilities and several national security leaders hail from northeast Indiana.”

The full text of the Congressman’s original letter is available here.
