Banks: Include WOTUS Repeal in Conference Committee Farm Bill

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today called for his amendment to permanently repeal the 2015 Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule, and reforms to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to be included in the upcoming conference farm bill that will reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of the legislation.

“I am disappointed that the Senate failed to include a repeal of the burdensome WOTUS rule in its version of the farm bill,” said Banks. “Farmers, agriculture producers and every single landowner deserve clarity and relief from this EPA power grab.

“The Senate bill also lacked important provisions to SNAP that would strengthen work requirements and move people back into the workforce. As the conference committee hashes out differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill, I urge my colleagues to include a permanent repeal of WOTUS and strengthen work requirements in the final package.”

The Senate passed its version of the farm bill yesterday afternoon by a vote of 86 to 11. Last week, the House passed its version of the farm bill, which included work requirements and the Banks amendment to permanently repeal WOTUS. Banks spoke about his amendment on the House floor last month.
