Banks Votes for Securing America’s Future Act

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today released the following statement after voting for the Securing America's Future Act, which would bolster enforcement of existing immigration law, make important reforms to our legal immigration programs and increase border security:

“This bill made critical reforms to address illegal immigration while providing sensible solutions on a number of issues, and I am disappointed that the House failed to pass this legislation.

“In order to reduce illegal immigration, we need to increase border security and reduce incentives to illegally enter the United States. This legislation would end chain-migration, halt the visa lottery program, significantly increase border security, put an end to sanctuary cities and fund President Trump’s border wall, all without granting amnesty.

“Though this bill failed to pass today, I believe Congress can come together and pass a solution that fixes our broken immigration system, secures our borders and increases enforcement.”

The House rejected the bill 193-231.

More information about the legislation is available here.
