Banks Statement on Trump-Kim Meeting in Singapore
Washington,
June 11, 2018
Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement ahead of President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s meeting in Singapore:
“The Trump administration deserves tremendous credit for bringing Kim Jong-un to the table through its pressure campaign. Denuclearization does not happen overnight and we must continue pressuring the Kim regime until verifiable concessions are made. What happens at tomorrow’s meeting is important, but what follows in the months and years to come is even more critical. “While the progress made leading up to this historic meeting is cause for optimism, North Korea has a history of making promises and then breaking them that cannot be overlooked.”
