Banks Statement on GOP Immigration Meeting

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today released the following statement regarding this morning’s House Republican Conference meeting on immigration reform:

“Republicans are united in the belief that our current immigration policy is outdated, our system needs reformed and the border must be secured. The American people elected a Republican majority with a mandate to fix these problems and I thank President Trump for making this a priority.

“As we work toward a solution, our nation’s immigration laws must be enforced both at the border and throughout the country, which means no amnesty and putting an end to special pathways to citizenship. It also means ending the visa lottery program and chain migration, and moving toward a more merit-based approach.

“By focusing on these priorities, along with building a wall and investing in new technology, there is a path forward for Congress to fix our broken immigration system and finally provide true border security.”
