Washington,
May 23, 2018
Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today praised the inclusion of his initiative on acquisition reform in the fiscal year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“Our armed forces must have the most cutting-edge capabilities, and this legislation will help protect investments made at Crane and other military facilities,” said Banks. “My amendment will ensure acquisition reform efforts have adequate oversight, which will give our service members the tools necessary to defend our nation both at home and abroad.” Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (IN-08), a cosponsor of the amendment, released the following statement: “Important investments have been made developing trusted leadership and expertise at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane (NSWC Crane), which plays a substantial role in helping provide critical technology for the Navy. The Banks Amendment will protect the investments made at facilities like NWSC Crane, helping to ensure that they can continue their important work in support of our troops.” Congressman Trey Hollingsworth (IN-09), also a cosponsor of the amendment, said: “Ensuring adequate funding for our military is essential to keeping our troops, and their families, safe abroad as they keep us safe here at home. Our amendment also brings this support to the Hoosiers at Crane so they can continue their vital work to protect our nation’s most important military infrastructure.” The House will vote on final passage of the FY19 NDAA this week. Background: The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) at Crane currently serves as the Executive Agent (EA) on behalf of the Department of the Navy for the microelectronics market and is our nation’s leader in providing access to relivable, trusted, and affordable printed circuit board and interconnect technologies. The Banks Amendment requires the Secretary of Defense to inform Congress of before altering any of the specified positions or offices outlined in Section 811 of the FY19 NDAA in an effort to protect critical investments and provide increased transparency from the Pentagon in its decision-making process. One of the offices specified is NSWC Crane’s EA. ### |
