Banks Supports President Trump’s Rescissions Package to Cut Wasteful Spending
Washington,
May 8, 2018
Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today issued the following statement in support of President Donald Trump’s rescissions package, which would cut $15.4 billion in wasteful spending:
“Working with President Trump, this Congress has achieved significant accomplishments like historic tax cuts and rebuilding our military, but we must not take our eyes off of getting our nation’s fiscal house in order. “I fully support this effort by the Trump Administration to cut nonessential budget items by using the rescission process to eliminate wasteful spending. The rescission tool has proven successful in the past, as President Reagan used it over 200 times and President Clinton used it over 100 times. It’s time for Congress to roll up its sleeves and work with the Administration to cut more unnecessary federal spending.” Today, President Trump exercised his authority under the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 (ICA) and asked Congress to rescind more than $15 billion in previously appropriated funding. Rescissions can be approved with simple majorities in both the House and Senate. ### Interested members of the media may contact Andrea Palermo at andrea.palermo@mail.house.gov. |
