March 2, 2018
Fort Wayne – Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today announced that his office will accept artwork entries for the 2018 Congressional Art Competition. “This year’s Congressional Art Competition provides high school students from northeast Indiana with a unique opportunity to showcase their talent to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who pass through the U.S. Capitol building every year,” said Banks. “I am excited to see the hard work of young Hoosier artists be recognized through this competition.” The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on April 16, 2018. Contestants must ensure that their submissions arrive at Congressman Banks’ Fort Wayne office at 1300 S. Harrison St. Room 3105 prior to the deadline. Congressman Banks’ office will hold a showcase to exhibit the submissions during the first week of May. Local high schools throughout Indiana’s Third Congressional District have been notified about contest rules and submission guidelines. Rules and the student entry form can also be found at https://banks.house.gov/constituent-services/art-competition.htm. Background: Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school art competition. The competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation as well as in Indiana’s Third District. Congressman Banks invites all high school students in the Third District to submit artwork. Last year, students from the Third District provided more than 40 submissions. The winning artist will receive a round trip flight to Washington, D.C. to see his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol, where it will remain on display for one year. ### Interested students should see their art teacher for details or contact Kathie Green from Congressman Banks’ office at 260-702-4750 or at kathie.green@mail.house.gov.
