Banks Supports Budget Deal to Begin Rebuilding Military
Washington, DC,
February 9, 2018
Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, voted in favor of the budget agreement passed by Congress this morning. “I pledged to my constituents that if they elected me to Congress I would fight to rebuild our military," said Banks. "While far from perfect, this budget agreement will finally give our military the long-overdue resources it needs. Years of defense spending cuts under President Obama have significantly hurt the readiness of our forces and affected the training, equipment and morale of our men and women who wear the uniform. This bill reverses that trend and will ensure those who serve will have what they need to keep our country safe." "I commend Congressman Banks for voting to give our military the resources and support needed at this critical time," said House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX). "We face serious threats around the globe, and today's vote is vital to our national security. Northeast Indiana is fortunate to have a Congressman who understands these challenges and is leading the effort to rebuild our military." The House passed the legislation 240 to 186. It now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law. ### Interested members of the media may contact Andrea Palermo at andrea.palermo@mail.house.gov. |
