Banks Statement on NDAA Signing by President Trump
Washington, DC,
December 12, 2017
Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today made the following statement after the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2018 by President Trump: “The federal government’s duty, above all else, is to protect American citizens,” said Banks. “With the signing of the FY18 NDAA today, President Trump and Congress have followed through on a core duty. I thank my fellow members of the House Armed Services Committee for their hard work on this critical piece of legislation. Our nation’s military readiness is at dangerously low levels, and it’s difficult for our armed forces to act if we do not provide them with the proper resources. The NDAA signed by the president today exceeds the administration’s initial budget request and begins to address some of these funding gaps. This legislation gives our troops their largest wage increase in nearly eight years, significantly boosts active duty end strength for each branch of service and increases funding for military facilities and new oversight tools, including the Department of Defense’s first audit.” ### Interested members of the media may contact Andrea Palermo at andrea.palermo@mail.house.gov. |
