June 12, 2023
House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) announced the inclusion of a provision in the Military Personnel subcommittee’s portion of that National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would create a new Space National Guard: “I’m proud of the work our subcommittee has done this Congress, but I’m especially proud that we helped to secure a Space Guard. Our nation must continue to anticipate and adapt to our ever-changing defense arsenal. Establishing the Space Force was one of President Trump’s greatest accomplishments and it is critical we build on this important work to protect America’s technological infrastructure and establish dominance in the next frontier,” said Chairman Jim Banks. Background: The NDAA Military Personnel Subcommittee Mark also adds an additional 800 Guardians to the Space Force’s active-duty force and establishes a dedicated Space Force Legislative liaison. Rep. Banks will lead the Military Personnel Subcommittee’s markup tomorrow at 1:00PM. If the legislation passes through the subcommittee, it will be considered in the full Armed Services Committee’s NDAA markup on Wednesday, June 21. Rep. Banks is the only Hoosier member of the House Armed Services Committee, where he has served for four consecutive terms. |
