Rep. Banks Pressures USSMA, West Point to Finally End Vaccine Mandates

WASHINGTON— On Saturday, three days after this oversight letter from Military Personnel Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Jim Banks, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) ended its vaccine mandate

On February 23, hours after Rep. Banks sent an oversight letter to Under Secretary of the Army Gabe Camarillo and announced an upcoming Military Personnel Subcommittee hearing on DoD’s COVID polices, the Army rescinded its vaccine directive and the United States Military Academy stopped requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for incoming cadets.

Said Congressman Banks: “I’m glad that the USMMA and West Point ended their COVID mandates, but they should’ve done away with it a long time ago. Tens of thousands of servicemembers have been fired or disciplined because of the Biden administration’s COVID-19 mandate. It has been a disaster for our military’s morale, recruitment and readiness. I will continue to use my oversight authority to fight against any federal institution that’s still clinging to this outdated, harmful and divisive policy.”
