Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement regarding North Korea firing a ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday:

“North Korea continues to escalate tensions in the Pacific region, and this missile test directly over Japan, an American ally, is the most glaring example of this aggression. We must take the threat posed by the Kim regime seriously by applying international sanctions, diplomatic pressure and doing what is necessary to protect our homeland.

“The situation with North Korea highlights the vital importance missile defense plays in our national security. At this critical time, Congress should swiftly finish the work we started on the Armed Services Committee by sending the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to President Trump to be signed into law. The House-passed version of this legislation would bolster our missile defense by authorizing an additional $2.5 billion in missile defense funding to protect the United States."
