Banks: “This is a terribly sad day for our country”

WASHINGTON – Following the House Judiciary Committee’s party-line vote on two articles of impeachment this morning, Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) released the following statement:

“Having failed to convince the American people or produce any evidence that the president committed a high crime or misdemeanor, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and House Judiciary Democrats have determined to plow ahead anyway and vote to impeach the president on a party line vote,” said Rep. Jim Banks. “I am appalled that the powerful tool of impeachment is being abused in this fashion. This is a terribly sad day for our country.”

“I will be joining my Republican Judiciary colleagues and voting NO on impeachment on the House floor next week,” continued Banks.

Experts have warned Democrats that pursuing partisan impeachment ahead of the president’s re-election bid is a politically perilous position for moderate Democrats who hold seats where the president is popular.
