Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) issued the following statement on sanctions the House passed Tuesday night:

“Today the House worked together to pass a bipartisan bill that leverages greater sanctions on Russia, North Korea and Iran. As these countries have increased their aggression worldwide, the United States must act to protect our allies. This legislation would increase sanctions on those who support Iran’s building weapons of mass destruction and expand the President’s authority to sanction anyone who violates U.N. Security Council resolutions on North Korea. The bill would also increase aid to our allies in Eastern Europe who are facing immediate and ongoing threats from Russia, and it would punish those who aid in Russian cyber meddling. After more than 8 years of a failing foreign policy under the previous administration, it is time for the United States to once again be a leader on the world stage. This bill is a step in the right direction.”
