Rep. Jim Banks Applauds Establishment of a Commission on Unalienable Rights Washington, D.C.— Today, Congressman Jim Banks (R-IN) released the following statement regarding the establishment of a Commission on Unalienable Rights by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Said Rep. Banks, “The unalienable rights codified by Thomas Jefferson in our Declaration of Independence were deemed ‘self-evident’ to all freedom-loving Americans and serve as the bedrock of our nation’s principles. While many countries throughout the years, and through the United Nations, have expressed their shared belief in these human rights, the many crises that currently threaten human dignity and liberty have cast a shadow of doubt as to whether or not this is actually the case. To properly confront these pressing issues, American policies must accurately reflect these ‘unalienable rights’ and be crystal clear as to what these rights entail. Today, President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo showed the world that America, and specifically this administration, will have no equal when it comes to promoting freedom at home and abroad through the establishment of a Commission on Unalienable Rights. The Commission will be an invaluable resource to U.S. diplomats and the Secretary of State as they do the patriotic work of promoting the liberties and freedoms that were endowed by our creator to all men, women and children. Freedom loving people everywhere thank the President and Secretary for their tireless work toward this noble goal.”
