Rep. Jim Banks Announces Service Academy Appointees Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today announced the four students from Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District who have accepted appointments at U.S. Service Academies as the Class of 2023. Said Rep. Banks, “These four young men represent the best of Indiana and the best of our country. I have no doubt that they will one day represent our communities well in their service to America as officers in the U.S. Military. Amanda and I join Hoosiers everywhere to wish Connor, Dirk, Jakob, and Noah the best as they begin their patriotic service." Connor Davidson – United States Naval Academy Connor Davidson will soon be a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy. A senior at Canterbury High School, Connor has been a volunteer at Dayspring Community Church and has cherished his time as a member of his school’s varsity soccer team, during which he was named an “All-Academic Player” and helped win a state championship. A loyal friend, Connor also serves on the Fundraising Committee for the Drake Goetz Memorial Park, built in honor of his late teammate. Connor has excelled academically at Canterbury and looks forward to carrying on the legacy of his grandfather, who served in World War II. Dirk Herschberger – United States Military Academy Dirk Herschberger will be attending the United States Military Academy, following his graduation from Woodlan Junior-Senior High School. In addition to his strong academic performance, Dirk has excelled athletically as a captain of his school’s football team and as a member of his school’s wrestling and golf teams. An Eagle Scout and Hoosier Boys State program alumnus, he has also stood out in Woodlan’s Marching and Pep Bands. Dirk looks forward to serving his country, in his words, “so that others can live in peace and have opportunities of Life, Liberty, and Pursuits of Happiness for future generations.” Jakob Jenkins – United States Naval Academy Jakob Jenkins is headed to the United States Naval Academy this summer. An excellent student at Homestead High School, Jakob experienced the Academy briefly during their Summer Seminar last year and is excited to return. A Homestead wrestler and Bass Fishing Club president, he has served as a volunteer assistant coach at the middle school level and a co-leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for his fellow Spartans. Additionally, Jakob is serving as a student teacher assistant and is a member of the National Honor Society. A proud American, he looks forward to taking this next step to help, “protect our freedom, rights, and status across the world.” Noah Marshall – United States Air Force Academy Noah Marshall is eager to attend the United States Air Force Academy later this year. As a student at Warsaw Community High School, he served as a JROTC officer, worked as a lifeguard at his local YMCA, and volunteered with Baker’s Youth Club. Noah has competed as a member of Warsaw’s cross-country and track teams, obtaining a varsity letter in the former. He looks forward to beginning this next chapter in his life and, “helping to preserve all that is great about our nation.” ###
